The following 5 species of Ferns (Pteridophyta) have been positively identified at Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History. (Photos and/or other information are available by clicking on underlined common names below.)

Family numbers below are after Manual of the Vascular Flora of the Carolinas (Radford, Ahles & Bell, UNC Press 1968), which is considered outdated by some botanists. Taxonomic botany is always in flux.

11. ASPIDIACEAE (Woodfern Family)

Christmas Fern Polystichum achrostichoides

Netted Chain-Fern Woodwardia areolata

13. ASPLENIACEAE (Spleenwort Family)
